About This Item

[No place], 1953. Unbound. Near Fine. Television script. 49 mimeographed leaves printed rectos only on white paper, with revisions inserted on blue paper. Unbound. Small nicks and a phone number on the first leaf, else very near fine. Cheever is listed as one of three co-writers of the television episode, which was based on the successful Broadway play of the same name written by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, itself based on Clarence Day's novel - indeed Lindsay, Crouse, and Katherine B. Day (Clarence Day's widow) are listed on the script as Editorial Advisors. Early script work which along with occasional stories published in *The New Yorker* helped to keep Cheever afloat, before he published his first novel (he'd published two volumes of short stories). A rarity.
