Telluride and Ouray, CO: Byers Photo; Byers & St. Claire Photo; Lutes Photo, 1898. Eighteen albumen photographs, circa 1895-1906, all no dates but one which is dated 1898 , six sized 6" x 8 ", eleven sized 6 1/2" x 8 1/2", and one sized 4 1/2" x 7 1/2", seventeen mounted on black studio boards sized 10" x 12", the smaller photo on black board sized 8" x 10 3/4". Overall Very Good to Near Fine images with Very Good to Near Fine tones, contrasts and details. Boards are Very Good, with minor rubbing and small chips, most a bit bowed. This SCARCE archive of Telluride photos includes eleven by Byers Photo, five by Byers & St. Claire, and 1 by Chase ( or Chas. E.) Lutes, Ouray, Colo. Nine of the photos depict scenes in and around Telluride, with six of those containing handwritten descriptions of the photos to verso that contain such detail of the photograph that they may well have been written by the photographer.. The nine scenes are titled 1,Ophir, 2.(above) Telluride, 3.Telluride, 4.Cable for Nellie Tramway, 5.Telluride Colo., 6. Smuggler Mine, 7. "Morning" Trout Lake ( the only dated photo, 1898), 8. Trail to Mines & Pennsylvania Tunnel ( from writing on verso), and 9. Ouray Toll Road No. 58 ( depicting 2 horse-drawn wagons each filled with people) ( the smaller Lutes, Ouray photo). The remaining nine photos, all by Byers Photo, are of an historic flood or landslide in Telluride( perhaps the flood of Sept. 10, 1906, of which the Daily Journal of Telluride reported that "255 persons buried alive"). They are untitled, with no writing verso, depicting the following scenes:1. Houses with Damage and View of Mountain Pass, 2.Downtown Telluride, 3. Looking Up Street with Church, 4. Flooded Street with People, 5. Destroyed Houses, 6. Up Street with Women, 7. Up Street with Men Clearing Debris in front of Phoenix Market, 8. Inside Damage at New Sheridan Bar & Cafe, and 9. Farm with Damage. A fascinating photographic look at Telluride at the turn of the 20th century. Most of these images are quite uncommon, and a collection of Telluride photographs this size on the market is RARE. More photos and descriptiona are available on request. . Photograph. Very Good. 6 1/2" x 8 1/2".

Paris: A. Maurice, 1878. Fine. Read More

Description:
Routledge, 1990. 8vo size trade paperback; 390 pages including index From back: "This is a unique study, continuing the work of Merleau-Ponty and Heidegger, and using the techniques of phenomenology against the prevailing nihilism of our culture. It expands our understanding of the human potential for spiritual self-realization by interpreting it as the developing of a bodily-felt awareness informing our gestures and movements. The author argues that a psychological focus on our experiences of well-being and pathology as embodied beings contribute significantly to a historically relevant critique of idealogy. It also provides an essential touchstone in experience for a fruitful individual and collective response to the dangers of nihilism." Edgewear, moderate wear to covers with sunned spine; marginalia, underlining and very light highlighting on least 58 pages prior to page 107; two previously folded page corners, some stray ink marks on outside pages.
