Inscribed by author on ffep to former owner Prof. Warner Berthoff, whose handwritten notes appear on a few pages in the index and bibliography. In a separate note (not included), Berthoff wrote about this volume, "The book is the Italian standard work on CBB . . . The book seems to me to describe who Brown would have been if he'd been a representative European intellectual in the main historical stream.
