About This Item
1624 BIBLE Biblia Sacra Tremellius Junius OT Theodore Beza NT + Apocrypha Latin
In 1565, French Protestant Theodore Beza issued an edition of the Greek New Testament with the Vulgate. His translation of the New Testament would become extremely important and popular throughout Europe, especially among Calvinists. According to many scholars, Beza's interpretation of the text, along with his translation, were extremely helpful to theological scholars who came after him.
This 17th-century Biblia Sacra features the famous Beza New Testament as well as the Junius & Tremellius Old Testament Latin translation. The Tremellius-Junius Bible, an important Reformed translation, was very influential on Reformation dogmatics which helped shape Protestant theology in the 18th-century. According to Fletcher, the pairing of these two translations are often found printed together. It features the Junius Apocrypha and a preface of Andrew Marvell (Andreas Rivetus).

Likely Reverend Mark James Pattison (1788-1865), rector of Hauxwell. He was the father of Mark Pattison (1813–1884), an English author and a Church of England priest who served as Rector of Lincoln College, Oxford; and Dorothy Wyndlow Pattison, better known as Sister Dora (1832–1878), a 19th-century Anglican nun and a nurse who worked in Walsall, Staffordshire. Reverend Pattison was regarded as mentally unstable, being committed to an asylum at least once, and suffered a mental breakdown and became violent and domineering. Motto: NON SIBI SED PATRIÆ
o Bookplate – Ralph Ewart Ford
Ralph Ewart Ford (1897-1974) was an English engineer, business owner, and bibliophile. Specifically, he amassed enormous collections of the works of John Bunyan and of rare and early English Bibles. His Bible collection in particular was displayed all over England, including at the Chapter House of Westminster Abbey during the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. In 1948, Ford and his brother, renowned architect Thomas Francis Ford (1891-1971), published 'a blue-bound, 7½"x5" New Testament of 377 pages' entitled The Letchworth Version, which due to its scarcity has become a collector's item in and of itself.
