"A personal narrative, containing accounts of the difficulties and gun fights along the old stage routes. The author came to Texas in 1845. He gives a sketch of San Antonio, with a list of those who lived there between 1845 and 1857."--Goodspeed.

"The author came to San Antonio in the early 50's, drove the U. S. mail coach from that place to Eagle Pass and, in 1867, established the first stage line between the U. S. and Mexico, later operating a freighting business from San Antonio to Chihuahua."--Eberstadt.
