About This Item

Berlin: VWB - Verlag für Wissenschaft und Bildung, 1994. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine. Inscribed copy of this autobiography by one of the 20th century's most dedicated-if little known-psychedelics researchers. An electrical engineer by training, Stolaroff (1920-2013) had a life-changing experience with LSD in the mid-50s and subsequently devoted himself to the study of hallucinogens as a tool for self-realization. In 1960, he founded the International Foundation for Advanced Study, which conducted pioneering research with LSD and mescaline up until the FDA revoked such research permits in 1965. Thanatos to Eros also covers Stolaroff's experiments with substances including MDMA and 2C-B, as well as the details of his personal life and deep involvement with other key psychonauts of the 20th century. First edition. Signed and inscribed by Stolaroff to a former owner on ffep. Forword [sic] by Alexander T. Shulgin and Ann Shulgin. Small quarto, 9.5 x 7 in. 192pp. Light yellow papered boards with purple color gradiant on front panel, titles printed in black; lacking a dust jacket as issued. Boards lightly worn and showing some minor soiling. Former owner's wordless block-print bookplate on front pastedown. A near fine copy.
