Chicago: Henry Regnery Company, 1955. First American edition. 230pp., xxxi. Blue textured-paper boards; gilt spine titles. Boards moderately sunned, irregularly to rear; toning to textblock edges; adhesive offsetting to gutters. About very good in a like jacket, shallowly clipped at all corners but with original "$3.50" price present; wear to spine ends, with some insect loss along bottom edge and flap hinges. Nonetheless, presents well. First edition of this significant novel by Ukrainian-born writer Ilya Ehrenburg (1891-1967), after whose title the Khrushchev Thaw period of Soviet history was named. Translated by Manya Harari, and with at rear a supplemental essay on the novel, "The Death of Art," by Russell Kirk.
