London: The Macmillan Company, 1899. First Edition. Very Good. First edition, first printing. viii, 400, (2, ads) pp. Publisher's dark green ribbed cloth ruled in blind, with titles in gilt on spine, top edge gilt. Very Good, with cloth lightly soiled, darkened at spine, worn at corners and lightly chipped and frayed at spine ends. Front inner hinge exposed. A lovely copy. An extremely influential socio-economic analysis of class in modern life, which, among other things, introduced the concept of "conspicuous consumption.
