About This Item

Albany: Weed, Parsons & Company, public printers, 1850 An interesting copy of the Revised Edition, in half leather binding by George Zabriskie, and with his inscription internally. George Albert Zabriskie (1868-1954) was a very keen collector of books and art, and took this interest further into 'finishing' book bindings - many completed as gifts. This volume has an inscription at the first initial blank: 'To Edward with the best wishes of his old brother "the finisher" George June 3/51'. The binding is in morocco leather with gilt compartments to the spine - one of which has the volume title. The remainder have a Native American head; hunting equipment; a deer head; a bird; and a horse head in gilt. There is a gilt cat head and a mouse on the leather at the front board. Boards and endpapers are marbled and there are internal gilt dentelles with GAZ at the bottom of the front pastedown. Internal gilt decoration to board corners. The binding is very clean with light wear to corners and edges and light scuffing to the marbled paper. The contents have some toning and spotting to the text pages and some brown marking and spotting to the plates. Contents with title; various items of business and reports on catalogues, the Indian Collection, Indian Antiquities; mineralogy and fossils. There are 17 colour litho plates - one folding; 5 black and white plates showing ancient burial places; and 5 black and white natural history plates - one folding.

About E C Books

E C Books is a small online bookselling business, specialising in pre 20th century works:natural history, science, history, and travel, aiming for rarer and more unusual books. Our largest stock area is Natural History, where we have a good range of books from the 1700-1800's, many finely illustrated. Other areas include children's books, particularly late 1800's-early 1900's - again illustrated; and literature pre 1900.When you order books from us we ensure that they are properly packed to protect condition, and we always use recorded or 'signed for' postal services for more secure delivery. Please note that we have recently moved to the beautiful Orkney Islands, where we intend to open a bookshop over the next year. Because of our location we cannot guarantee 'next day' delivery but we will get your purchase to you as quickly and safely as we can. Please note that the buyer is responsible for the payment of any tax or duty on import.
