Uncorrected galley proof of the Pulitzer Prize-winning author's first book, issued to reviewers and publishing industry figures before publication of the first edition. [x], 452 pp. Bound in publisher's wraps. Former owner's name written in sharpie on the front wrap, else Near Fine. Laid in letter from publisher dated May 17, 1985 and two sheets on colored paper: one with a blurb from Gilbert Sorrentino, another from Nicholas Delbanco. Housed in a purple cloth custom slipcase.
