About This Item
Other than 66 years of shelf wear, this book is still in great shape.
The Detective Book Club produced volumes of three crime novels from 1942 to 1999. Originally monthly, near the end they dwindled down to just a few per year. Many famous detective and crime novelists had their early works featured in DBC editions. Often, books were published in DBC editions before, or at the same time as they were published in mass market form. A little about our authors:
James McConnaughey: Hard to find out anything about this author. Wrote between two and four novels, published in the 1930s to 1950s. It seems he may also have been a magazine writer.
Edward Candy: Pen name of Dr. Alison Neville, a British physician who left medicine to raise a family of five children. During that time, she managed to write eleven novels, three of which featured Superintendent Burnivel. These were published between 1954 and 1980, after which she returned to medicine, specializing in electroencephalography. Neville died in 1993. This is the first Superintendent Burnivel novel.
Kathleen Moore Knight: A writer of 39 mysteries. The Elisha Macomber series is comprised of 15 novels and the Margot Blair series has four. Knight also wrote 20 stand alone novels At least seven of her novels appeared in editions from the Detective Book Club. Knight died in 1984 High Rendezvous is one of Knight's stand alone mysteries.
