A deluxe leatherbound reprint edition by the Franklin Library offering three principal writings by the English polymath Sir Francis Bacon (1561-1626). Bacon is perhaps best remembered for his advocacy of science based on observation of actual natural events. This edition illustrated with drawings of Leonardo da Vinci. Issued as part of the publisher's collection, the 25th Anniversary Limited Edition of the Great Books of the Western World. One of an unspecified number in this limited edition. --- Bound in full burgundy bonded leather covers with three raised bands on spine. Spine titling, elaborate decorations to covers and spine, and textblock edges all in bright gilt with additional decorations to covers in dark grey. Leaves made from high-quality papers. Red silk moire endpapers, with matching sewn-in satin ribbon bookmarks. Volume lacks a dust jacket (as issued). --- A Near Fine copy but with 2 small scuffed spots to front cover, otherwise bright, newish and lacking additional damages or evidence of having been read.; Octavo (8 to 9 in. tall); [12], 456 pages .
