About This Item

London, Blackie And Son, Limited, 1896. Fair. Hardcover. First Edition, Size 7.5 x 5.00 inches approx. Original grey boards with a figure of a soldier to the front board, he is eveloped in snow, cream titles, gilt titles to spine looking suitably frosted, rubbing to extremities, creasing to top and bottom of spine, material beginnin to lift at the bottom of the spine on the hinge, grey endpapers cracked from hinges at the front, 352 pages followed by 32 pages of publisher's advertising, various small annotations from a previous owner who was plainly a keen Henty enthusiastic marking off the titles written by G A Henty on the given list of Mr Henty's Historical Tales all issued in a similar format to this book, on the front endpaper there is a stamped name of a previous owner hardly noticeable, fading signature of another owner on front pastedown and preliminary title page, black and white frontispiece, 'Sergeant Julian Wyatt receives the Cross of the Legion of Honour, ' the book has eight illustrations by W H Overend and a map, opposite the list of illustratons there is a portrait of Henty, this book is complete but would benefit from just a little bit of tender loving care; although it is still ready to provide a fully entertaining story as it has clearly done in the past. All edge olivine; pages clean and fully readable. .
