New York: Limited Editions Club, 1964. First edition thus. Number 753 of 1,500 copies. Translated from the German by Thomas Commons, introduction by Henry David Aiken, designed by Adrian Wilson, initial letters, numerals and a monogram drawn by Arnold Bank, printed at the Thistle Press. 4to gilt-stamped quarter white vellum with blue Fabriano paper boards; blue top edge; 316 pages. Art-deco style bookplate of "Thompson" on front pastedown, original glassine gently toned at spine, and slipcase showing barest wear -- still, altogether fine with original prospectus and customer portion of order form laid in.
Synopsis
Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for All and None is a philosophical novel by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, composed in four parts between 1883 and 1885. Much of the work deals with ideas such as the "eternal recurrence of the same", the parable on the "death of God", and the "prophecy" of the Overman, which were first introduced in The Gay Science.
