About This Item

London: Reader's Library, 1920. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. (London: The Reader's Library n.d. [1920]). First Edition Thus. Publisher's burgundy cloth boards, gilt lettering within gilt scroll on front and spine. Usual page tanning due to the poor quality of paper used otherwise a VG+ copy in a D/W that is VG indeed with a slither of loss at the top right hand corner of the back panel (not affecting any lettering). A much nicer copy than normally seen of this scarce Reader's Library 1920 re-issue. Superb front cover illustration by A K Merritt. There does not appear to be a copy of this Edition in the British Library. Uncommon. Scans invited.

Synopsis

The Time Machine is a science fiction novel by H. G. Wells, first published in 1895 and later directly adapted into at least two feature films of the same name, as well as two television versions, and a large number of comic book adaptations. It indirectly inspired many more works of fiction in all media. This 32,000 word novella is generally credited with the popularization of the concept of time travel using a vehicle that allows an operator to travel purposefully and selectively.
