About This Item

London / New York: Ernest Nister / E.P. Dutton, 1902. Very good plus.. First edition of this rather surreal collection of humorous poems about kitchen implements, with hilarious chromolithograph illustrations. Somewhat Toy Story-esque in its premise ("As soon as you enter the kitche and rooms / [The Tin Tans] dissolve into common saucers and spoons"), this odd collection of humorous poems about humanized kitchen tools is enthralling. The at times chaotic illustrations recall those of STRUWWELPETER, but with the motion and cartoonish exaggeration of early Disney animated shorts. A fascinating work. 11'' x 9.25''. Original red cloth-backed pictorial boards. Illustrated with numerous chromolithographs and two pages of musical notation. [26] pages, each page individually hinged into book, as issued. Pencil gift inscription to front pastedown, dated "October 14, 1915." Boards with light rubbing and some edgewear and in-fills, spine ends bumped. Leaves with some soil to margins. Illustrations sharp and vibrant.
