Verona: Limited Editions Club, 1960. Hardcover. Very slight sunning to the spine. About Fine in a Fine slipcase. Tranquillo Marangoni. Small quarto (7-1/8" x 10-1/4") bound with a soft black cotton spine and decorated boards. Hapgood's translation, edited and augmented by David Glixon for the first complete English text. Designed by Giovanni Mardersteig and printed by him at the Officina Bodoni. Illustrated with 99 wood engravings of various sizes by Tranquillo Marangoni. Of a total of 1500 copies SIGNED by the artist and by the designer on the colophon page, this copy is not numbered (in place of the number is written in ink "Office Copy") and bears the Club's blindstamp stating it is one of 15 presentation copies. Monthly Letter, illustrated and longer than the typical LEC letter, laid in.
Synopsis
Toilers of the Sea, is a novel by Victor Hugo. The book is dedicated to the island of Guernsey, where Hugo spent 15 years in exile.
