About This Item

Toning, slight tilt, else appears as unread/lightly read, unblemished copy in DJ displaying moderate surface/edge wear, as shown with repaired closed and open tears.

This authoress was born in 1898 in Russia. She left Russia in 1922 for England where she became a noted medieval scholar, novelist and poetess. Winner of The Atlantic $5000 Prize. This is the story of a young girl who had no choice but to stay and live through a world in collapse. Edith Martha Almedingen, part English, mostly Russian, was nineteen when Russia"s great social upheaval swept through her native St. Petersburg. For five years, not as a persecuted aristocrat with family jewels to sell, nor as a participating radical with a political cause, but as one of those desperate civilians who suffer most in war and revolution, she fought for the bare necessities: enough food to sustain her body, enough hope to sustain her soul, enough imagination to seize the chance to escape when it came.

Insurance & handling is included free. Extra Charges/Fees apply on Shipments Outside The U.S. and Expedited Shipments. Oversize. Will Advise. Updated 2.26.23. Biblio 9.28.2020 #701-122918
