Without dustwrapper. Rubbed, spine sunned. Recent bookplate of the Library of Mistakes to FEP, early inked ownership inscription of Percy George to recto of FFEP, leaves toned. The first of John Maynard Keynes’s (1883-1946) significant contribution to economic theory, a revision and elaboration upon earlier articles that had appeared in the Manchester Guardian, written in the context of the monetary disorders brought about by the First World War, the tract develops the case for a managed currency in place of the gold standard, which the author dismissed as ‘a barbarous relic’. . First edition. 8vo.
Synopsis
John Maynard Keynes (1883-1946) was the most influential economist of the first half of the twentieth century. During both world wars he was an adviser to the British treasury, and his theory of government stimulation of the economy through deficit spending influenced Franklin D. Roosevelt's "New Deal" administration. The mass unemployment caused by the Great Depression inspired his two most famous works, A Treatise on Money and General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money.
