About This Item

Dundee: A. Smith & Company for J. Chalmers, 1812. Octavo. Third edition. xxviii, 613p. with errata slip at end. Sub-title continues "...and supplemental disquisitions." These disquisitions were done by Samuel, Lord Bishop of St. Asaph. Rev. Horsley was a fellow of the Royal Society and many years served as its Secretary. He completed an edition of Sir Isaac Newton's works in 1785 but is particularly remembered for his controversy with Dr. Priestly and Sir Jospeh Banks which led to his resignation from the society in 1784. Bound in full calf, early rebacking with old gilt decorated spine laid down retaining original endpapers, some scholarly pencil notes cross-referencing to earlier publication and some occasional minor toning or spotting. A very good copy with a small chip on spine.
