Montreal: Printed By John Lovell, 1860., 1860. 12mo. pp. 1 p.l., x, [11]-179. without the errata slip mentioned by TPL. contemporary calf (spine faded, front joint cracked, head of spine chipped, corners worn). Inscribed ‘To Mrs.(?) Hopkins with the Authors Compts., Montreal April 1860. First Edition. Wilson’s descriptions of Trinidad (Chapters II-VII) and Cuba (Chapters VIII-XI), are particularly extensive, with much on the cultivation of sugar and processing of sugar cane, the abolition of slavery, insects, the cocoa plantations, social life in Havana, government of Cuba, the cigar trade, &c. His brother, Robert, owned a large sugar plantation in Trinidad. Wilson also describes his visits to St. Thomas, Barbados, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, Boston, and Niagara. TPL 8868.
