Octavo, [two volumes], xii, 395pp, [1 blank]; 403pp, [errata]. Bound in red cloth, title in gilt on spine, new endpapers. Complete with 12 illustrated copper plates, 2-fold out. Scattered foxing, light toning to plates and text. Previous ownership bookplate on front endpaper of both volumes. Includes the "Hottentot Woman" plate in Volume II, which is sometimes considered a suppressed plate. Lacking half title in both volumes. (Mendelssohn III, p. 102). This is the first English translation of Francois Le Vaillant-Voyage de M. Le Vaillant dans l'interieur de l'Afrique, par le cap de Bonne-Esperance, published in Paris the same year.
