New York: The Macmillan Company, 1939. First American Edition. Good+/Good-. Karel Capek. 8vo. Pp. 269. Translated by M. & R. Weatherall. Frontis. color illustration. With Capek's black and white line drawings throughout. Bound in yellow cloth with blindstamped letter "C" on front cover, lettering stamped in silver on spine. Slight age-toning to edges of cloth. Dust jacket with a bit grubby with age-toned spine, slight chips at head and tail of spine and a three-inch dampstain that has bled through to spine of cloth. Please see photos. First US edition, published the same year as the British, under the Allen & Unwin imprint. Interior quite fresh. Dust jacket is now protected in a clear, removable archival sleeve.
