London: Printed for Charles Dilly and Thomas Evans, 1786. Full Leather. Poor/No Jacket. Full tree calf leather. xx, 197 pp. Volume 1 ONLY. Drawn from Greek, Roman, Spanish, Italian, German and Eastern books, this work presents a selection of jokes and jests from various countries, both for amusement and education. Compiled by John Pinkerton, a Scottish scholar, cartographer and numismatist. POOR/FAIR condition. Both covers DETACHED. Heavy scuffing to the leather along the extremities. Spine flaking, chipped and worn. General darkening. Several owner's notations and names in the front, with an old bookseller catalog description glued in on an endpaper. Scattered foxing throughout. A few stray pencil lines in the text.
