London: Printed for John and Paul Knapton [et al], 1746.. Sixth edition, 8vo, (xxxii), 360 pp. 7 folding plates, armorial bookplate of Sir John Hynde Cotton to title verso with a descendant's bookplate to the rear paste down. Contemporary speckled calf, some light wear, recently rebacked retaining the original spine label. "...easily the most successful and widely used military drillbook to appear in English during the century" (ODNB), the work helped Bland's career, rising to Colonel while serving in Flanders and later, as a lieutenant-general, being made Governor of Gibraltar, among other posts.
