Le Caire (cairo): Imprimerie De L'Institut Français D'Archéologie Orientale. Fair with no dust jacket. 1945. Hardcover. Offprint, Annales du Service des Antiquites de L'Egypte. T XLV. 15 pages + 11 plates including fold out plates. French text,. Scarce, only 3 copies on WorldCat. Signed by author to W. R. Dawson the well-known English Egyptologist and antiquarian. Original grey paper wrappers are sunned at edges, stapled binding, front cover starting to separate, edges chipped, top corner of front wrapper crumpled, text pages following are correspondingly bent. Varille (1909-1951) , a French Egyptologist, was a member of the Institut Français d'Archéologie Orientale in Cairo. He excavated the gates of Ptolemy III and Ptolemy IV from the temple of Medamud, and had a promising career ahead of him, until a car accident ended his life in 1951. ; Service Des Antiquités De L'Égypt; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 15 pages; Signed by Author .
