About This Item

The Detective Book Club produced volumes of three crime novels from 1942 to 1999. Originally monthly, near the end they dwindled down to just a few per year. Many famous detective and crime novelists had their early works featured in DBC editions. Often, books were published in DBC editions before, or at the same time as they were published in mass market form. A little about our authors:

Elizabeth Peters: A pseudonym used by Barbara Mertz, as Peters she is best known for her Amelia Peabody series, featuring a family of archaeologists exploring Egyptian tombs. Mertz held a PhD in Egyptology. In addition to the 20 Peabody novels, Mertz, as Peters, wrote six Vicky Bliss novels, four Jacqueline Kirby novels and nine stand alone novels. Mertz died in 2013. This is the fourth Vicki Bliss novel.

Herbert Resnicow: Resnicow was a civil engineer who turned to writing at age 60. Over the next 17 years, Resnicow turned out 17 mysteries, including co-written works with Edward Koch, Fran Tarkenton, Tom Seaver, and Pelé. The twelve novels written on his own are in three short series. Resnicow died in 1997.

Marian Babson: Babson had a writing career that ran from 1971 to 2012. She passed away in 2017. She wrote three short detective series, the longest being the seven edition Trixie and Evangeline series, but Babson also wrote 32 stand alone detective novels. Altogether Babson published 45 novels. This novel was also published under the title Weekend for Murder.
