A short work on the history and use of medicinal and other herbs, primarily those found in the Catskill Mountain region of New York, although the use of herbs throughout history is discussed. Included are accounts, as the title states, of usages by Native Americans, Quakers and Shakers, with general descriptions of the types of herbs that can be used to treat various afflictions. Anita Miller Smith was an American painter and herbalist, known both for her impressionistic landscapes of the Catskill Mountains, as well as her Stonecrop Gardens-a large herb based business that served clients throughout the country (Wikipedia).
