About This Item

[Istanbul]: APA Ofset Basimevi, 1974. Good. n.d. [c.1974] Limited edition. Folio. Black buckram spine with paper title strip, illustrated paper boards. Scuffed and dented, significant wear to edges and extremities, small bald patch to upper board. Comprises 100 loose-leaf colour plates illustrating Turkish carpets: light toning to margins, light spotting to versos of plates, first 30 leaves already loose. Else, clean and bright. One-page typed AL (in English) laid in: from Erdogan Gönül to 'Your Excellency,' dated 11.3.1974; creased at bottom edge, with small loss. A robust copy with an interesting association. Good+ A Turkish businessman and classic car enthusiast, Erdo an Gönül (1933-2003) held leading roles in the Otosan and Koç groups. The letter thanks the addressee for their visit to Otosan and reminds them of their discussion about carpets. The book was commissioned by Sümerbank, the Turkish bank, which funded the development of the new republic's textile industry; it shows carpet designs manufactured in Anatolia over the centuries. It was printed in 'a very limited number' to 'give away to friends'. Alas, no hint exists to which friend Gönül gave the book. N.B. This is a heavy book that will incur additional international postage costs.
