About This Item
-. Folded, few marks.. One page and two pages (on bifolium) respectively, approx. 5 X 8 in. each. Cordial, letters about writing from the critic to a novelist. Eduard Hanslick (1825-1904) was a prominent and influential music critic, savaged by Wagner (whose music he had once praised, then turned against) in "Das Judentum in der Musik." It is thought that the character of the critic Beckmesser in Wagner's "Meistersinger von Nürnberg" was based on Hanslick.
