About This Item
Franklin Center, Pennsylvania: The Franklin Library. Near Fine with no dust jacket. 1979. First Edition. Full-Leather. A deluxe Franklin Library first edition presenting two dramatic works by John O'Hara. "The Man Who Could Not Lose" was intended as a framework for a possible movie, taking the form of a novelette. "Far from Heaven" is a conventional stage play. Both were published after Mr. O'Hara's death in 1970. They have been edited by Matthew J. Bruccoli, with a preface by Red Smith and illustrations by John Collier. Several black & white photos of the author are included. Issued as part of the publisher's First Edition Society series which preceded the Harcourt Brace Jovanovich trade edition. One of an unspecified number in a limited edition. --- Bound in full navy bonded leather covers with three raised bands on spine. Text presented on quality papers. Spine titling, elaborate decorations to covers and spine, and textblock edges all in bright gilt. Grey silk moire endpapers, with matching sewn-in satin ribbon placemarker. Volume lacks a dust jacket (as issued). --- A gift-worthy copy, but with a few slight blemishes to textblock top edge gilding, otherwise an about-Fine copy lacking additional damages (and probably unread).; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; xxv, (1), 254 pages .
