[1943 UNITED STATES POWER SQUADRONS WWII U. S. NAVY ASSOCIATION / TYPED LETTER SIGNED BY CHIEF COMMANDER] WILLIAM L. SAYERS, Chief Commander, U. S. P. S., typed letter hand-signed/TLS, about 130 words, 8-1/2" x 11" with letterhead, Office of the Chief Commander naming Sayers, New York City address, dated January 18, 1943, with envelope addressed to recipient, "To all members in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th United States Power Squadrons District" giving notice that area "yachting organizations and the Coast Guard" are looking for instructors for high school students on seamanship and signaling eventually to expand "to cover the entire Naval District"…with copy of January 16, 1943 letter from Percy S. Weeks, Chairman, National Seamanship Training Corps (typed copy enclosed, no hand signature) that prompted Sayers letter to the power squadrons by informing him that high schools of the greater New York area are "introduc[ing] our course in practical seamanship [as an extra-curricular activity], in order to prepare for service [in the U. S. Navy] those boys who prefer the sea…A large number of volunteer instructors will be needed…All members of [area U. S. Power Squadrons] are requested to make application [as instructors]…a special text-book has been compiled by Mr. Charles F.
