About This Item

Niagara Falls, Ontario, 1859. First Edition. Hardcover. Ex library- very good. 178 p. 16 cm. Cloth hardcover with blank impressing. Spine faded with slightly softened ends, corners lightly bumped. Library bookplate on front pastedown and stamp on front free endpaper.

Kirby was considered the "spokesman, interpreter, and bulwark of the Tory and Loyalist ideal." In this poem he emulates Scott's "Marmion" in a nostalgic expression of an idealized Canadian future, one in which Upper Canada forever establishes its historic relation to the greatness of Great Britain.
