About This Item

Ibadan: Sketch Publishing Company, 1971. First Edition. Quarto (36.25cm); glossy, photo-illustrated wrappers, stapled; 48pp; illus. Corners rolled; mild toning to page margins; still Very Good. Supplement to the Nigerian Daily Sketch, outlining the career of Ukpabi Asika, appointed administrator of East Central State (formerly Biafra) following the Nigerian-Biafran War of 1967-1970. Photographic illustrations (halftones), including many documenting the "heroic" federal troops in action during the war. Asika was a leading Igbo intellectual, educated in the United States, and his appointment as administrator of the former Biafran state was clearly intended to quell the vanquished seccessionists who were predominantly members of the Igbo minority. An uncommon relic of the Biafran conflict.
