Fortunately,she accepted a part as a reckless gangster's moll in Quentin Tarantino's 'Pulp Fiction',which fast became one of the most talked-about films of the decade and garnered her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.She met her second husband, Ethan Hawke,on the set of the science-fiction movie 'Gattica' in 1996 and the couple were married in May 1998,having a daughter,Maya,two months later.But Uma's career again went into decline: her next projects,'Batman And Robin','The Avengers' and 'Les Miserables',were all box-office flops.Woody Allen's 'Sweet And Lowdown',followed by two lavish period dramas,Merchant Ivory's 'The Golden Bowl' and Roland Joffe's 'Vatel',helped restore Uma's status,and she received a Golden Globe for her performance in 'Hysterical Blindness' in 2003. Back at her best after the birth of her second child,a son called Roan,in 2002,Uma gave a mesmerising performance as the wronged bride on a rampage of revenge in Quentin Tarantino's eagerly awaited comeback 'Kill Bill',released in October 2003; the part was created expressly for Uma and it earned her another Golden Globe nomination.
