Uncle Tom's Cabin

From inside page titled "Harriet Beecher Stowe. - 1812-1898." : "Uncle Tom's Cabin may not have been the creation of a literary art, but it is so earnestly written, and excites so deep an interest in suffering, misfortune and injustice, that readers, as a rule, do not so much as think of the style in the living picture, - and yet is is 'style that lives'."

Fair condition; however the first 8 pages of the Introduction are missing, along with the Title Page. The cover is a really nice smooth-feeling green cloth with a flower design impressed in the cover that has ivory and maroon accents. The title is also pressed into the cover along with a border. The spine also has the title and colored flowers design impressed.


The top and bottom of the spine show much wear. There is some wear to the edges and corners. The end papers have a delicate green design with the Henry Altemus initials in the center. The front also has a previous owner's name in ink. And, there is another name in the back. Both front and back end paper hinges have a partial tear.


All of the pages of the story appear to be present, but page number 11/12 is mostly loose from the binding, has multiple taped spots, and has a large tear. The pages have some soiling and some pages show a water stain at the bottom. The text appears to be clean, but I may have missed an occasional mark. There are several black and white illustration plates (one-sided).

Even though this book has some flaws; overall, it has a really nice "feel" in my hand.
