Early London piracy of Stowe's American bestseller, first published in weekly parts in the True Briton from 1 July 1852, and in book form by religious publisher Partridge & Oakey later in the year.
The book was first published in Boston in March 1852. BAL 19518 describes the first UK edition by Clarke & Co., in late April. In that year, there were more than 50 editions in Britain from a score of opportunistic publishers.
