The 154-page spiral bound booklet is printed on 60# bond paper with the front cover protected with a vinyl sheet. Chapter titles in the first part of the book include: First Historical Epoch, Turning Point in Fortunes of Weld County, Expedition of Zebulon Pike in 1806, Expedition of Stephen A. Long in 1820, Weld Through 79 years -- 1859-1938, Forts of Weld -- 1836-37, The First Gold Rush -- 1849, The Cattle Industry, Agriculture in Weld, Irrigation, Meeker Massacre, Public Schools, Birth of the State Normal School (later Colorado Northern University), Meeker Memorial Museum, and Grand Lake-Big Thompson Project. The second part of the book is devoted to pioneer stories and other articles: Adventures of Gene Williams, a cowboy; the story of Platteville, the homesteading tales of Mrs. C.A. Carlson; Robert Hauck, a Colorado empire builder who built the first grasshopper machine; the adventures of colonist Max Clark; David Hodgson and his description of the grasshopper plague; Mrs. James Tuckerman and the social life of early days; George Pingree, scout, and the Battle of Sand Creek; L.E. Witherbee and wild horses; and the letters of Lucy Billings; Sugar beat culture in Weld County, helped along by Mrs. C.E. Mitchell; Towns and Postoffices of Weld County; and the emergence of the coal industry. One highlight of the book is the story of Shawsheen, an Indian maiden, nearly burned at the stake, who showed her appreciation to her rescuers by helping the Meeker Massacre captives. .
