Brown cloth with stamped decorations to the boards; gilt lettering to the spine. 12 mo. 407 pp. Numerous illustrations plus a frontispiece of the author. An extensive history of the underground railroad in Chester County and neighboring counties in Pennsylvania. Bookstore name and date written in pencil at the top of the second free endpaper. Laid in is a postcard depicting the John Rankin House in Ripley, OH - the first station on the Underground Railroad. Very good or better: spine ends softened, moderate foxing to the top edge. Scarce.
