Former owner's name in ink to front free end paper, spine a little leaned, a very good or somewhat better copy in a very good dust jacket with a small triangular chip to the lower front panel (5 mm wide, 12 mm deep) and a small closed tear (7 mm) with crease to upper front panel, chipping with loss to spine ends, moderate sun fade to spine panel which also has a vertical crease down the center. An uncommon book in jacket. (16246). Octavo, pp. [i-vi] vii-viii [ix-x] [1] 2-342, original blue-green cloth, spine stamped in gold. The author's best known novel, a ghost story-haunted house novel which became a bestseller here in the U.S.; published in the U.K. as UNEASY FREEHOLD (1941). Filmed in 1944 with Ray Milland.
