An overview of the history and working mechanisms of the United States Military Academy, i.e., West Point, published in the midst of the Civil War. Mansfield's text originally appeared in the American Journal of Education and the present item is a separately-issued and stand-alone reprint. The author, Edward Deering Mansfield, was graduated from West Point in 1818 and went on to write a number of biographies on military figures such as Winfield Scott and Ulysses S. Grant.
