About This Item

Unto Caesar by Baroness Orczy (Hodder and Stoughton, [No Date] circa 1916).

Baroness Emma Orczy (1865-1947), author of adventure, detective and romance novels plus the popular series featuring the Scarlet Pimpernel.

Although stated on the dustwrapper and implied by the list of titles in the book, 'Unto Caesar' isn't a story in the Pimpernel series but an historical novel set in ancient Rome.

Originally published in 1914, this copy a later reprint. Not dated, however the list of titles including 'Leatherface' would suggest circa 1916.

Hardback – publisher's red cloth-style binding with title in black to spine, blind blocking to spine and front board, in a dustwrapper. pp [1]-284, 4 publisher's list. 7 x 4.5 inches approx. (181mm x 115mm).

Dustwrapper worn and torn, some creasing; small loss to spine ends and corner tips, piece missing to lower margin of rear panel; foxed and a little grubby. Covers a little dusty and marked but generally clean; light wear to spine ends, slightly pulled to head. Endpapers tanned and with offsetting; pages age tanned, especially to margins but generally clean throughout; spotted and dusty to edges of page-block.

Overall, showing wear but otherwise a reasonably nice copy – uncommon to find with an early dustwrapper.
