About This Item
Houston: Museum of Fine Arts, 1971. Staplebound. 12pp., illustrations, oblong wraps. 7.25 x 10 in. A notable work of environmental art, Valley Curtain spanned about 1,200 feet bridging two peaks in the Rocky Mountain range in Rifle, CO. The project was intended to run from June to September 1971, but this first attempt, which was the subject of the exhibition, failed. It was completed August 10, 1972 and removal began the next day due to winds. The artists received tax breaks thanks to a corporation set up to finance and complete the project; this corporate model for art-making was recycled for future projects by the artists.
