About This Item
United Kingdom: Thames & Hudson, 2001. Book. Near Fine. Cloth. First Edition. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. First edition, simultaneously published in the U.K. and the U.S.A. Folio. Grey silk binding, 408 pp. Illustrated through in color. When Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin met in Paris in 1887, they were two of several artists seeking a way to move beyond Impressionism. They also found common ground in the conviction that progressive art should be created at a distance from urban decadence-which led Gauguin to Brittany and van Gogh to Arles in early 1888. Once established in Provence, van Gogh persuaded Gauguin to join him there in hope of founding a "Studio of the South." This book presents a day-by-day examination of the artists' activities in Arles. Published on the occasion of a landmark exhibition organized by the Art Institute of Chicago and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, this lush volume includes 510 illustrations, with more than 300 of them in color. Near fine in near fine dust jacket, protected with an archival-quality mylar cover..
