About This Item

UK,slim 8vo HB,no dw/dj,as issued, author SIGNED,reprint. [Originally and first published 1982,this the first reprint, 1988.] FINE. No owner inscrptn but author's handwritten black ink signature - without dedication - to title page just below his printed name,no dw/dj,as issued(?) and no printed price - a self-published book. [The author that publishes a book on their own typically has complete creative control, higher book royalty rates, and full autonomy over the publishing process and full ownership of their book rights.] Bright,crisp,clean,glossy,paper-covered,sharp-cornered boards with immaculate plain white endpapers, with wrap-around royal blue background with b/w town street photographic illustrated front cover and capitalised,white-lettered title+ author name to same; spine/backstrip with similarly coloured+lettered title+ author name as the front; rear board/cover plain without any text.Negligible shelf-wear, bumping, creasing to edges or corners - no nicks, tears or splits present.Top+fore-edges inevitably but lightly aged/toned with minimal sporadic blemish; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - near pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips - appears unread apart from my own collation.UK,slim 8vo HB,no dw/dj,as issued, author SIGNED reprint,5-111pp [paginated] includes author's Introduction, profuse contemporary b/w photographs includes b/w aerial photographic city views with accompanying text/captions; plus [unpaginated] city b/w aerial photographic illustrated half-title page, and author SIGNED title page. Visually the exterior appearance is exceptional, and particularly internally, the book is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of its 35-year-old age. It really is an exceptional, exemplary example for its cleanliness, brightness and lack of detracting faults and uncommon as a SIGNED item. During the darkness of two March and five April nights in 1941,the centres of Plymouth and Devonport were almost obliterated. In just seven nights of just one year the very heart of Plymouth was laid to ruin.many civic and commercial buildings were destroyed.Bedford Street, George Street,Frankfort Street and Fore Street were just lines amid piles of rubble. But the book is not about those dreadful war years. lthough a lot of buildings were destroyed,a great many remained intact or at least were capable of repair.During the final years of the 1940s and the whole of the decade that followed, buildings were relentlessly demolished in dogmatic persuance of the "Plan for Plymouth". Yet research has shown that in the "Plan for Plymouth" it was listed as 'shops and offices desirable for preservation as a whole'. Please contact seller, for correct shipping/P+p quotes - particularly ALL overseas buyers - BEFORE ordering through the order page! N.B. ALL buyers please note, stocks' actual shipping/P+p costs are adjusted and any difference is refunded, after order's receipt and before the order's despatch, especially if the item(s) are offered either P+p included/FREE. ** N.B. US/Canada customers please be aware: Standard AIRMAIL postage from UK to these destinations can now cost more than the price of the book! If speed is not of the essence, then Economy rate is recommended - at approx. anything from a 1/3rd to 1/2 of the standard US AIR quote/rate - sometimes arriving sooner than the 42 days - but not always. **
