With a reproduction of first edition title page and wrapper for an original monthly issue of this work, which first appeared in 1847. With several other black & white illustrations, probably by the author. With an introduction by Joseph Warren Beach. --- In Toledano spine 8 / blue cloth / gilt titling on red cover & spine blocks / faded red topstain / grey Kent endpapers / jacket style i, verso advertises 383 titles in ML catalog. Likely published c.1958 (though 1950 date appears in book). ML #131.3. --- With inkings to introduction, but not in main body of the novel, a little dulling to cover gilding; else an unmarked, tightly-bound copy. Price-clipped dust jacket with complete vertical tear at spine; other tears and chipping, else intact and protected in removable mylar wrapper.; 12mo 7" - 7-1/2" tall; xxx, 731 pages .
