About This Item

Neuchatel: Editions du Griffon Neuchatel, 1974. Book. Illus. by Vasarely. New. Cloth. First Edition. 4to.. First edition, fourth printing. Cloth binding, 244 pp. Illustrated throughout, many in color with twenty-seven installation photographs. Also includes scholarly sections including a catalogue of the artist, chronology and exhibition list through 1965, Hailed as the founder of optical art, or op-art, the Hungarian artist Victor Vasarely created a highly plastic, geometric imagery that engaged the viewer with optical cues that created spatial illusions. This album looks at Vasarely's work during the height of his popularity in 1974, shortly after the Musée Vasarely was installed in the Château de Gordes in Provence and before the Fondation Vasarely was built in Aix-en-Provence. The brief text of this Swiss edition is in French, but the real attraction is the wealth of vivid, beautifully printed reproductions of Vasarely's art, including such works and series as Vega, Harlequin, and Study in Multicolor, a comedic homage to M.C. Escher. Still in shrinkwrap. New in new dustjacket..
