Venice: Hieronymum Porro, 1589. First Edition. Hardcover (Vellum). Very Good Condition. Full contemporary vellum, toned, lacking ties, tear to vellum on rear cover with loss of a corner, a few stains and spots of wear, a bit shaken, but generally sound. 72 leaves with 34 engraved emblems by Girolamo Porro. Engraved title with early hand coloring. Mild marginal soiling throughout, small hole in B1 just touching image on verso, illustrations on B2v and B4v mounted, clean tear in margin of C4 just touching edge of image.
A pleasing copy overall of the first bilingual edition of this interesting book of prophetic visions concerning the papacy. At the end is an Oraculum Turcicum with a caption in Turkish and 3 pages of manuscript prophecies added in an early hand on the rear endpapers. These regard Naples and Pope Gregory XIII.
