The author, a British military engineer, went to Venezuela to oversee the construction of a railway in 1888/9; includes a brief history of the country; shipboard life on the way there; conditions & incidents in the country; various difficulties. Hardcover, full brown cloth, gilt titling, black palm tree decoration. Some wear, corners bumped, couple of dents on the edges of the rear boards, front inner hinge a bit cracked; INSCRIBED/initialled on the title page: "With the Author's kind regards | W.E.W."; page edges foxed. Text clean; xxxii, 196 pages; 18 b/w vignettes, map.. Inscribed by the Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 6" by 9".
