A signed, edition de luxe first edition, number 396 of 500 copies produced, signed by the illustrator Mortimer Menpes to the colophon.Menpes was an Australian-born British painter, author, printmaker and illustrator. With the text provided by the illustrator's daughter, Dorothy Menpes.Illustrated with one hundred colour plates, retaining their original captioned tissue guards. Collated, complete. With the plate of G Horace Smith to the front free endpaper, and the library plate of the Willimoteswick library to the rear pastedown. No further library markings. In the publisher's original decorative cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with discolouration to back strip, and handling marks to rear board. Front joint starting, but firmly held. Name plate to front free endpaper, with library plate to rear pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and generally clean, with instances of light spotting. Good
